The multi-award winning Broadway musical Hamilton to open for six-week run at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre
Hit musical Hamilton will open at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre next week for a six-week run.
The Olivier, Tony, Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning show has played at Victoria Palace Theatre in London since December 2017, as well as continuing its Broadway run.
It tells the story of America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and helped shape the very foundations of America today. The score blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway – the story of America then, as told by America now.
Hamilton features the book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler. Musical supervision and orchestrations are by Alex Lacamoire, and the show is also based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton.
It is the winner of 11 Tony Awards including best musical, seven Olivier Awards, the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and the 2016 Grammy Award for best musical theatre album.
The touring cast will feature Marley Fenton as Alexander Hamilton; Billy Nevers as Aaron Burr; Roshani Abbey and Casey Al-Shaqsy as Eliza Hamilton; Chasity Crisp as Angelica Schuyler; Ashley J. Daniels as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Shak Mancel James as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton; Naomi Katiyo as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds, and Louis Maskell as King George.
Eva Philips who grew up in Southampton, is also set to join the emsemble. She said: ”I saw the show in the West End in 2018 and loved every second. Before the show even ended, I made a promise to myself that I’d be in it one day. The audition process consisted of six singing/dancing rounds, followed by a week-long bootcamp.”
“As the ensemble in Hamilton, we portray all sorts throughout the show – one moment we’re the jury in the first American murder trial, the next we’re a physical expression of Aaron Burr’s darkest desires. We’re constantly evolving and hardly leave the stage.”
Hamilton wll run from 18th March to 26th April. Tickets are priced from £20. To book visit www.mayflower.org.uk
