New Forest Folklore trail, Beaulieu
AN enchanting sculpture trail celebrating New Forest Folklore has opened at Beaulieu.
Beaulieu’s Mill Pond Walk has been transformed into a mythical New Forest Folklore: Fairies, Witches and Dragons featuring willow figures and interactive features.
Returning following its success in 2024, the trail leads visitors along the riverside of Palace House, the historic home of the Montagu family. The folklore trail brings the Mill Pond walk to life with stories inspired by New Forest legends.
From the Bisterne dragon whose legend lies at Bolton’s Bench in Lyndhurst, to the Yernagate giant, a mythical figure believed to have been a guardian of the New Forest, visitors can enjoy the trail which blends storytelling and nature with myths of the surround area.
As well as delicate fairies, witches and dragons, a variety of other willow figures will be dotted along the pathways to greet visitors. Visitors can also spot wonderful woodland hares, owls, deer and pheasants, as well as playful cats, horses and mischievous boggarts hidden amongst the trees.
Beaulieu spokesperson Jon Tee said “We’re delighted to be bringing the Fairies, Witches and Dragon trail back for 2025. After its popularity in 2024, we’re excited to provide this immersive experience that families can enjoy together. We’re looking forward to welcoming guests of all ages to explore the trail that will spark imaginations, and we hope will leave lasting memories.”
Spring also the perfect time to enjoy Beaulieu’s stunning gardens and grounds including the Victorian kitchen garden and flower garden where seasonal produce is grown for Palace House.
Other attraction highlights include a recently opened rooms of Palace House and a new display called We Had One of Those. Later this month a new Icon of F1 exhibition will open on 24th May celebrating 75 years since the first drivers’ championship.
