MILFORD’S popular music festival returns on bank holiday Monday with a series of pop-up gigs throughout the week.

Rebranded as the Greener on the Green Faire, with an emphasis on sustainability and green living, the packed programme of live music and community events will run until Sunday 8th May.

Pre-Covid the Milford Music & Arts Festival was a much-loved community event for many years. However, due to the costs, work and time available it was not possible for the very small team to bring back the festival in its original format.

The festival begins on Monday with food and fun on the village green from 11am-5pm. Highlights include art stalls, crafts, bushcraft area, face-painting, storytelling and pop-up acoustic sets.

DJ Joe Muggs will host an all-ages disco at Milford Community Centre from 3pm-5pm and there will be live music in pubs around the village into the evening.

The fun continues through-out the week with live music, storytelling, poetry, beach cleans, choir performances and clothes-swaps at various venues including churches, pubs, restaurants and the community centre.

On Friday 6th May live music and food will return to the village green with a schedule that includes performances from the Durston Jazz Band, Swamp Rat Hillbillies and the Enginettes quartet.

Food and drink stalls will also be there and Lymington Transition will be running a Jean Jeanie recycling workshop at All Saints’ Church.

The festival continues on Saturday 7th May with live music and a stall on the green, family storytelling and bushcraft activities, while local bands and singers pop up in pubs and restaurants with musical showcases.

Author and children’s illustrator Simon Chadwick will run a rubbish-monster making workshop on Sunday morning at Milford Community Centre, with live music, a plant swap and a multi-denominational church service on the village green.

The goal of the Greener on the Green Faire is to raise funds for local greening projects.
