The former Radio 1 DJ David ‘Diddy’ Hamilton beings show to New Milton’s Forest Arts

TV personality and broadcaster David ‘Diddy’ Hamilton will take audiences back through his illustrious career during a special evening at New Milton’s Forest Arts.

Still hosting a daily radio show at the age of 86, David has spent more than 65 years honing his craft as one of the nation’s best-known DJs.

It all began back in Cologne in 1959 when The Beatles were still Quarrymen and David was entertaining the troops with the likes of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Cliff Richard.

During the show no stone will be left unturned, as David reflects on his childhood, his relationship with his parents, their broken marriage and his early years spent living with his grandfather.

He will also give an account of his school days and his early journalistic career documenting the era’s footballing heroes when he was no more than a boy.

This fascination with the ‘beautiful game’ later led him to become a director at Fulham FC and the MC at Craven Cottage for nearly two decades. He also played celebrity football with the likes of Elton John and Rod Stewart as well as the stars of the 1966 World Cup winning team. All this was to come after his TV career, beginning in 1961 with a stint at Tyne Tees, where he was named TV Personality of The Year.

He took his talents to ABC TV in Manchester where he combined his abilities to cover news stories with lighter entertainment. Meanwhile, his radio career ran in tandem, first with The BBC Light Programme on Radio 2, then on to Radio 1 with his legendary afternoon show commanding an audience of over 15 million listeners. David later returned to Radio 2 before carving out a long and illustrious career in commercial radio.

He now presents a daily show on Boom Radio. David said: “We’ve got a lot of Boom listeners down here and I’ve heard from people in Lyndhurst, Lymington and Christchurch. Yeah, Boom seems to be booming out very well in this part of the country!”

An Audience with David Diddy Hamiltion is at Forest Arts on Saturday 31st May. Tickets are £10. To book visit forest-arts.co.uk or call the box office on 01425 612393.
