New Forest Children’s Choir to join The Sirens for summer concert at At Mary Magdalene Church in New Milton
Two New Milton-based choirs will join forces for a midsummer concert at St Mary Magdalene Church in New Milton on Saturday.
The New Forest Chamber Choir Ladies, called The Sirens, and the multi-award-winning New Forest Children’s Choir, who were BBC Children’s Choir of the Year in 2010, will be putting on an enchanting concert performance entitled Voices of Angels from 6pm.
Both choirs, under the direction of their highly acclaimed musical director Alison Russell-Hayward, are noted for their exceptional sound and beautiful trademark legato phrasing.
They will be joined by the highly talented soprano soloist Henrietta Russell, a winner at this year’s prestigious Music at Beaulieu Awards. Henrietta has also won numerous other music awards, and at Southampton Music Festival received the June Cowell Trophy for the most promising singer.
New Forest Choirs spokesperson Rupert De Barr said: “It has been said that Henrietta has the voice of an angel, and in this concert she will be delighting the audience with a selection of arias and solos by, amongst others, Cesar Franck, Lloyd-Webber and Puccini.”
Although often associated with sacred music, on this occasion the choirs will be singing a varied repertoire including compositions by their Patron Sir John Rutter, Will Todd and Bob Chilcott, and music from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story.
Rupert added: “With the pure, exquisite tones of the children’s choir, the beautiful harmonies of the ladies chamber choir and the soaring notes of the soprano soloist, this concert promises to be a feast of joyous music – with a few surprises for the audience.”
Tickets are priced £10 each and will be available on the door or via the choir’s website newforestchamberchoir.co.uk
