A MAN was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two women were badly hurt in a knife attack at a Burton home.
Police responded to a disturbance at an address in Lineside where the victims, one in her 20s and the other in her 40s, were reported to have been assaulted by a man with a knife around 11.50pm yesterday.
Having suffered injuries described as serious but not life-threatening, both women were taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment.
Officers launched a search of the surrounding area, which involved a helicopter, to locate the alleged attacker who was said to have fled the scene. The suspect was found nearby.
Detained on suspicion of attempted murder, a 22-year-old local man was being questioned by police today. It is believed the suspect and the two victims know each other.
A cordon has remained in place outside the address where the incident took place while officers continue their investigations.
A force spokesperson said: “It was reported that two women, one aged in her 20s and another aged in her 40s, had been assaulted by a man with a knife.
“The women were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were believed to be serious but not life-threatening.
“The man who was alleged to have committed the assaults was reported to have left the premises and was located nearby following a search by officers.
“A 22-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is assisting officers with their enquiries. The arrested man and the two injured women were all reported to be known to each other.
“A cordon is currently in place at the address to allow officers to carry out their investigation.”
