A HORSE was killed in a collision with two vehicles which partially closed a stretch of the A31 at Ringwood for about 10 hours on Saturday.

The incident involving a Mercedes Sprinter van and a Toyota Yaris took place just after 5am on the westbound carriageway at Poulner Hill, near Eastfield Lane.

Although both vehicles were damaged in the impact, the occupants were unhurt. A Hampshire police spokesperson said the animal died at the scene.

The force and the Highways Agency closed the road while the incident was dealt with.

Traffic was diverted via slip-roads, with no delays reported, and the Highways Agency workers later took control of the incident until the scene was cleared around 3pm.

The police spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.05am on Saturday 7th November following a report of a collision between two vehicles and a horse on the A31 near Eastfield Lane, Ringwood.

“The horse died at the scene. Both vehicles were damaged but the drivers were not injured.
