Southern Division One: Sparsholt 212 v New Milton 214-6 (New Milton CC win by four wickets)
TEENAGER Campbell Golding hit his second century of the season to hand New Milton victory over Sparsholt in Southern Division One.
Sparsholt won the toss and elected to bat. However, it was New Milton who took the early advantage as the hosts were restricted to 56-3 after wickets from captain George Watts and seam bowler Dan Loader (2-28).
Samuel O’Brien and David Banks took charge of the Sparsholt innings and put on a 99-run stand that frustrated the visitors. Oli Wilmore (1-44) broke the partnership after O’Brien picked out Alfie Hussey in the field on 77.
Lee Beck claimed three quick wickets to inflict a batting collapse, and when Banks was caught off Ryan Beck’s bowling for 70, Sparsholt limped to 212 all out in 45.4 overs. Lee Beck and George Watts were the pick of the bowlers after they both picked up three wickets in the innings.
After losing opener Connor Tomkins (1) early, Steve Watts and Golding managed to steady the ship for New Milton. Golding was the aggressor while Watts contented to a cameo role as New Milton searched for their first victory in four weeks.
Watts departed for a patient 25 to leave the visitors 90-2 and Lee Beck, Hussey and George Watts all rotated the strike for big-hitting Golding. The teenager smashed 13 fours and three sixes on his way to a maiden Southern League century which proved to be game-winning.
Golding departed for 110 off 103 balls after he was bowled by Jeremy Frith. Wily veterans Ryan Beck and Loader were on hand to seal the win with six overs to spare and four wickets in hand.
New Milton will look to cause an upset to league leaders Hook and Newnham Basics on Saturday at Fernhill.
