Around 20 vehicle towing caravans entered Eling recreation ground in Bartram Road, which is owned by Totton and Eling Town Council, yesterday (Monday) evening.

Residents living nearby have voiced their concerns, with one writing on Facebook: “There is already human excrement in the bushes with soiled tissues.”

Another said: “The gate is open so obviously it is a worry that more will turn up. I’ve seen children playing in the playpark, which has been closed for months and is still meant to be, because of the coronavirus risk.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary told the A&T: “We were called to an incident at 10.32pm on 22nd June following reports of an encampment at Eling recreation ground.

“Our officers attended the scene and engaged with the occupants advising them to vacate the area. We are working alongside Totton and Eling Town Council to seek a suitable resolution.”
