DURLSTON COURT pupils were delighted to welcome an extra special coach to their rugby lessons.

Former England player Ben Gollings led a series of fantastic training sessions at the Barton Prep school for years 6, 7 and 8. His nephew, Jonty, a pupil at the school, joined in the fun.

Ben, the World Record points holder on the International World Rugby Sevens Series with 2,652 points, delivered a morning’s coaching. His sessions included drills and skills for the full range of abilities from those with little experience of the sport to those pupils who play at county level.

Durlston headmaster Richard May commented: “It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to be part of these special sessions, both boys and girls. They were all inspired by what they learned from being coached by Ben, and couldn’t wait to put some of the tips into action in the afternoon fixtures.

“It was an honour and delight to welcome Ben here today — we don’t often get world record holders at Durlston on a Wednesday morning! All the girls and boys thoroughly enjoyed their sessions.”
