AN APPLICATION for 11 new flats is an opportunity to regenerate one of the gateways to Totton, a developer has claimed.
Applicant Mr Kalirai of 220230 Ltd wants to demolish the buildings at 93-95 Commercial Road, which are a mixture of residential and commercial properties, and replace them with the one-bedroom homes.
A new wider access would be created to boost pedestrian safety, with 12 parking spaces created as well as room for 12 bicycles.
Documents submitted to New Forest District Council state: “The application makes efficient use of brownfield land and will contribute to the housing supply and provides much-needed residential accommodation suited to young professionals in the area.
“The current street scene is not one of merit on this site. The replacement of the existing, tired buildings and removal of advertising hoarding will greatly enhance the street scene and should be welcomed. The scheme comes forward to regenerate this end of Commercial Road.”
The public consultation runs until 12th March. So far there have been no letters supporting or objecting to the plans.
Totton and Eling Town Council is set to discuss the proposals at its meeting on 3rd March and NFDC will make a final decision in April.
The plans are in outline so a second application seeking approval for the details would have to be agreed before construction could begin.
