THE body of a woman was found on a beach near Christchurch early this morning.
Police and paramedics responded to a call-out reporting the discovery shortly before 5.30am at Avon Beach.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and officers are working to establish her identity in order to inform her next of kin.
A forensics tent was erected on the beach near the corner of Avon Run Road and South Cliff Road as investigations were carried out. But a Dorset Police spokesperson confirmed the death was not being treated as suspicious.
The spokesperson said: “Dorset Police received a report at 5.27am on Monday 18th May 2020 that the body of a woman had been found at Avon Beach near Christchurch.
“Officers attended along with the ambulance service, and sadly it was confirmed the woman had died.
“Enquiries are ongoing to confirm the woman’s identity and inform her next of kin.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
