A digger is believed to have been used when the offenders targeted the Windmill Service Station on the A338 Salisbury Road, near Ringwood.

In the process they demolished a section of brickwork at the Budgens store attached to the Shell garage.

The alarm was raised around 2.25am yesterday (Monday), and police cordoned off the scene.

A spokesperson for the Hampshire force said: “An investigation is in its early stages and we are keen to hear from anyone who has information about what happened.

“In particular, we would like to hear from anyone who was driving in this area at this time and noticed anything suspicious.”

There have been recent reports of similar ram raids elsewhere in Hampshire, in which stolen agricultural vehicles were used to rip cash machines from walls. However, the force spokesperson said the Blashford incident was currently not being linked with any others.

The A&T contacted the Budgens store on Tuesday about the incident, but staff there declined to comment.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting crime reference number 44190172801, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
