BLACKFIELD & Langley FC will host Kingstonian in the next round of the FA Trophy after they beat Truro City 3-1 in their first-round qualifying replay.

Hisham Kasimu and Lerone Plummer put the hosts two goals ahead before Truro’s Tyler Harvey gave the visitors a glimmer of hope. Substitute Shaquille Gwengwe made sure of a Watersiders’ victory in injury time.

Early breakthrough

Following their 1-1 draw a week ago, Truro made the long trip down to the New Forest on a wet Saturday afternoon. Blackfield got off to a flyer when Kasimu’s 20-yard effort left the visitors’ keeper James Hamon rooted to the spot.

Blackfield continued to pile on the pressure, but the Truro defence held strong. The visitors also had their chances in the first half – Harvey put two headers wide just before the break.

The Watersiders made a change at half-time as Gwengwe replaced goal-scorer Kasimu. The hosts once again showed their dominance and were rewarded when Plummer doubled their lead on 57 minutes. The Blackfield talisman tricked his way past two Truro defenders before firing home from close range.

With their FA Trophy dreams hanging by a thread, Truro made two changes to try to get back into the game. Blackfield struggled to get out of their half with the visitors firmly on the front foot.

Close contest

Niall Thompson and substitute Alex Battle both had chances blocked in front of goal as the Watersiders looked to maintain their clean sheet. But the visitors found a breakthrough with 10 minutes remaining when Harvey hit the top corner past the Blackfield keeper Lewis Noice.

However, the dream comeback for Truro was not to be as Blackfield restored their two-goal advantage in injury time.

Gwengwe fired home from inside the box to put Blackfield into the next round where they will host Kingstonian – who just sealed their place in the FA Cup second round with a 4-0 win over Macclesfield Town – later this month.

Blackfield will face Truro City again in two weeks, but they return to league action on Saturday when they travel to high-flying Taunton Town.
