Police round up herd of horses loose on the A35

A HERD of horses had to be cleared from the A35 near Christchurch town centre by police this morning.


POLICE were alerted to reports the herd was running along the bypass at around 7am.

Officers were sent to the stretch of road between Stoney Lane and Fountain roundabouts where the animals were on the loose.

It took just over an hour for them to be safely rounded up and returned to their field.

Posts about the incident on social media stated around half a dozen horses, including a foal, were running along the road towards the Waitrose store.

A Dorset Police spokesperson told the A&T: “Dorset Police was called at 7.03am to a report of a number of horses in the road on the Christchurch bypass between Stoney Lane roundabout and Fountain roundabout.

“Officers attended the area. The horses were safely moved back into their field at around 8.10am.”
